Each bike we offer has been stripped apart and rebuilt with all worn out parts replaced with good quality substitutes, this process can take days and includes polishing of the paintwork and also each metal part. We respect each bike greatly and bring them back to their original glory except for a few scratches that we leave, not wanting to eradicate the history or story that each bike holds and that is totally unique to each bicycle. We also build up custom bikes and have a large selection of used quality parts for that special build. Just so there is no confusion, we do not produce cheap bikes at Mottainai Cycles ….. We love bicycles and spend our days bringing the bikes back into use, it is a labour intensive, act of passion. We respect the intrinsic nature of older bikes and actually thrive on working with them and in so doing, giving the bike another opportunity to bond with their human counterpart. We are inspired when a person comes in and falls in love with one of our bikes, this is why we keep going and really enjoy the process from start to finish. Oh, the pics depicting a seat and some tube thingy is a cool recycled device, shown to me by Henrik (little Jimmy) who works with us, it is a saddle lock to prevent precious saddles from being stolen. It’s basically a recycled bike chain joined under a recycled 700c tire tube which encases the chain. Niffty eh?

To all lovers of old bikes out there:

We have re-opened for 2012 and will also be at the next Rose Street Artist Market this Sunday the 15th. For weekdays it’s best to text/ring me on 0448884051 to make a time as I will be in and out, searching the country for groovy old bicycles. The odd pic in the above selection was a pic of my Mom’s new Dog, Jemma who was saved from the lost-dogs-home after being mistreated, Grrrrrrr I really don’t understand some people, who could treat a loving animal badly and um…. who could buy a Chinese copy retro bike???? Anyway Jemma now has lots of love and has a new life, kinda like our bikes ………. Let this year be an apocalyptically armageddonistic year for recycling and respecting each other and the earth.

We have a super collection at the moment as I decided to sell all the bikes I built up for hire. We will be open from 10am until 5.30pm, so check out the market and then swing by our shed and have a chat with us, even Tall Glen will make an appearance. A bunch of vintage discoveries at Mottainai vintage bicycles, the above piccies document some of our bikes that have left the nest this week. We have a great selection of vintage bikes at the moment and we are only open until Christmas so you had better pop over pretty quick before we close for several weeks over Dec/Jan. Same location at 41 Kerr St down the little lane off Kerr in Fitzroy Melbourne. We do everything from selling vintage bikes to servicing any bikes and we also do custom builds, including wheels etc, we also have some very cool old parts to compliment your steed.
