Some blissed-out new Mottainai customers with their new/old rides. The pics of bikes are a small selection of fully restored, rebuilt bikes that we have for sale in our funny little hole in the wall shop nestled in the heart of Fitzroy. Come in and please mention if you found us through this blog. 41 Kerr Street Fitzroy, we do repairs and service all bikes but secretly prefer older style bikes 😉 0448884051 Ride on time!!! Check out a crap video (my first one) taken of our crazy hole in the wall shop below.
We have re-opened for 2012 and will also be at the next Rose Street Artist Market this Sunday the 15th. For weekdays it’s best to text/ring me on 0448884051 to make a time as I will be in and out, searching the country for groovy old bicycles. The odd pic in the above selection was a pic of my Mom’s new Dog, Jemma who was saved from the lost-dogs-home after being mistreated, Grrrrrrr I really don’t understand some people, who could treat a loving animal badly and um…. who could buy a Chinese copy retro bike???? Anyway Jemma now has lots of love and has a new life, kinda like our bikes ………. Let this year be an apocalyptically armageddonistic year for recycling and respecting each other and the earth.
A bunch of vintage discoveries at Mottainai vintage bicycles, the above piccies document some of our bikes that have left the nest this week. We have a great selection of vintage bikes at the moment and we are only open until Christmas so you had better pop over pretty quick before we close for several weeks over Dec/Jan. Same location at 41 Kerr St down the little lane off Kerr in Fitzroy Melbourne. We do everything from selling vintage bikes to servicing any bikes and we also do custom builds, including wheels etc, we also have some very cool old parts to compliment your steed. Ok, cheers for now. Ph: 0448884051 firstname.lastname@example.org
At Mottainai bikes we restore neglected vintage bikes, two of the above pics demostrate a before and after wheel rim, one all rusty and the next pic all shiny and ready to lace up to another hub. We use lemon juice firstly and then metal polish to make the metal sparkle. In the other pics we have some proud new owners and their new rides and also a pic of a lovely Lady we met on Smith St and her beloved Gazelle (Dutchie). If your a vintage bicycle lover you are welcome to pop in to our shed at 41 Kerr St Mon-Fri and also on Sundays together with the Rose Street Artist Market. You can contact me via text or call on 0448884051.
Oh, don’t forget ‘tiny Glen, the gentle mechanic’, services all kinds of bikes Mon=Fri.
We are currently fixing an old shed behind the Rose St market in Fitzroy, some of the pics were taken inside and out the front, this a work in progress but it’s great to get a specific place to work on our bikes. Also Glen Mason from Backstand bikes and myself have joined forces, Glen is a magnificent bike mechanic and an all-around nice guy who is very keen to recycle/reincarnate as many vintage bikes as possible. When Glen does a service he usually spends the most part of an entire day on each bike and is meticulous, ensuring each bike is as close to perfect as is possible. So we now also service vintage bikes:) It has been amazing riding weather these last few days as a hint of the oncoming spring has peeked through the cold blanket of Melbourne’s winter, warming our riding hearts.
We had a pop up shop in Melbourne Central for a week, some of the above pics were of some of the lovely people we met through that experience. Some of the other pictures are of locals around Fitzroy/Collingwood with their old groovy bikes. We also have a new shed in Fitzroy where we can show you’all some sweet vintage bicycles.
Some of the shots also depict random cyclists around Fitzroy getting their ‘vintage cool on’. And you can’t stop me sneaking in the occasional dog piccy, these are some of the dogs we take care of and we love them to pieces. Ahhhhhhh vintage bikes and dogs ……. It’s the simple things:)
Mottainai Cycles will be at Melbourne Central Level 1 from Wednesday 20th-31st July for the State of Design Festival, come and check out some of our bikes. Cheers
